Yamaha MT-07 ECU Flash: Complete Guide

Yamaha MT-07 ECU Flash Guide

The MT-07 is one of the most popular motorcycles in the world, and one of the most commonly flashed. Its CP2 twin is a gem, but the factory calibration leaves it with an abrupt on/off throttle, lean fuelling at small throttle openings and limits written for emission tests.

Which ECU does the MT-07 have?

YearsECUMethodInterface
2014 to 2024Denso SH7058F (Yamaha CAN)Through the diagnostic connectorTactrix OpenPort 2.0 or CANable
2014 to 2024Denso SH7058FBench, ECU removedUSB-TTL (FT232)
2025 onwardsDenso RH850 (Yamaha CAN)Through the diagnostic connectorTactrix OpenPort 2.0 or CANable

The 2014 to 2024 MT-07 can be flashed either way. Through the connector is quicker. The bench method is there if you prefer it or the bike will not communicate. The 2025 model uses the newer RH850 ECU, available as an add-on. The Tracer 700 uses the same ECUs.

What riders change on an MT-07

  • Throttle response. Smoothing the snatchy pick-up from a closed throttle is the number one reason MT-07 owners flash.
  • Fuelling. Richer at small throttle openings, and corrected for an aftermarket exhaust.
  • Fan temperature. Lower, for town riding.
  • Rev limiter.
  • Systems removed for track use.

How to flash an MT-07, step by step

  1. Put the battery on a charger.
  2. Connect a Tactrix OpenPort 2.0 or CANable to the diagnostic connector (or, for the bench method, remove the ECU and wire it with the diagram from your MotoFlasher account).
  3. In MotoFlasher, read the ECU and save the stock file.
  4. Edit the file in TunerPro or get a tuned file from your tuner.
  5. Write the file. MotoFlasher corrects the checksum.
  6. Start the bike and check the idle and the warning lights.
Before you flash: keep the battery on a charger, save the original file somewhere safe, and never disconnect the cable while a write is running. Changes to emissions-related settings may only be legal for off-road or competition use where you live.

Frequently asked questions

Can I flash an MT-07 without removing the ECU?

Yes. The 2014 to 2024 MT-07 can be flashed through the diagnostic connector with a Tactrix OpenPort 2.0 or CANable, and so can the 2025 model with the RH850 ECU.

Does a flash fix the MT-07’s jerky throttle?

Smoothing the throttle response and the fuelling at small throttle openings is the most common change on the MT-07, and it is aimed at exactly that.

Do I need an add-on for the 2025 MT-07?

Yes. The 2025 MT-07 uses the Denso RH850 (Yamaha CAN) ECU, which is an add-on.

Is the Tracer 700 the same?

Yes. The Tracer 700 uses the same ECUs and methods as the MT-07.
