KTM 1290 Super Duke ECU Flash: Complete Guide
The Super Duke is a monster of a road bike, but its factory calibration still holds it back: lean fuelling that makes the throttle abrupt at low speed, torque limits in the lower gears and maps built around noise tests. Every Super Duke is flashed through the diagnostic connector, with no need to remove the ECU.
Which ECU does your Super Duke have?
| Model and years | ECU | Interface |
|---|---|---|
| 1290 Super Duke R, 2014 to 2018 | Keihin SH72531 (KTM CAN) | Tactrix OpenPort 2.0 or CANable |
| 1290 Super Duke GT, 2016 to 2018 | Keihin SH72531 (KTM CAN) | Tactrix OpenPort 2.0 or CANable |
| 1290 Super Duke R, 2020 to 2023 | Keihin RH850 (KTM CAN, 2020+) | Tactrix OpenPort 2.0 or CANable |
| 1290 Super Duke GT, 2019 to 2023 | Keihin RH850 (KTM CAN, 2020+) | Tactrix OpenPort 2.0 or CANable |
| 1390 Super Duke, 2024 onwards | Keihin RH850 (KTM CAN, 2024+) | Tactrix OpenPort 2.0 or CANable |
The newer Keihin RH850 ECUs are add-ons.
What riders change on a Super Duke
- Part-throttle fuelling. Smoother response and less snatch at low speed.
- Low-gear torque limits.
- Fuel and ignition after an exhaust change.
- Rev limiter and fan temperature.
How to flash a Super Duke, step by step
- Put the battery on a charger.
- Connect a Tactrix OpenPort 2.0 or CANable to the diagnostic connector.
- Read the ECU and save the stock file.
- Edit the file in TunerPro or load a file from your tuner.
- Write the file. MotoFlasher corrects the checksum.
- Start the bike and check the idle and the warning lights.
Before you flash: keep the battery on a charger, save the original file somewhere safe, and never disconnect the cable while a write is running. Changes to emissions-related settings may only be legal for off-road or competition use where you live.
