How it works

Flash your KTM in four steps

  1. 01

    Connect

Plug your interface into the diagnostic port, or wire the ECU on the bench with the diagram from your account.

  2. 02

    Read & back up

MotoFlasher identifies the ECU and reads the full flash. Keep that original file: it is your way back.

  3. 03

    Tune

Edit fuel, ignition, limiters and the other maps in your tuning editor, or load a file from your tuner.

  4. 04

    Write

MotoFlasher corrects the checksum and writes the file back. Start the bike and ride.

Why flash a KTM ECU?

KTM’s big twins are among the most powerful road bikes made, and their factory calibration still holds them back: lean low-throttle fuelling that makes the throttle abrupt in town, torque limits in the lower gears and maps built around noise tests. A reflash lets you tune fuel, ignition and throttle for your exhaust, your fuel and the way you ride, on the road or on track.

KTM ECU families

  • Keihin SH72531 (KTM CAN): the 1090 and 1190 Adventure, early 1290 Super Adventure, 1290 Super Duke and Super Duke GT, plus the older 690 SMC.
  • Keihin RH850 (KTM CAN, 2020+): the 2020 to 2023 1290 Super Duke, Super Duke GT and Super Adventure, and the current 690 SMC.
  • Keihin RH850 (KTM CAN, 2024+): the 1390 Super Duke.

All of them are read and written through the diagnostic connector, with no need to remove the ECU. Add-on ECU families are marked in the table above.

What riders change on a KTM

  • Smoother part-throttle fuelling and less snatch at low speed.
  • Low-gear torque limits.
  • Fuel and ignition after an exhaust change.
  • Rev limiter and fan temperature.
  • Track and supermoto settings on the 690 SMC.

Flashing a KTM, step by step

  1. Keep the battery on a charger.
  2. Connect a Tactrix OpenPort 2.0 or CANable to the diagnostic connector.
  3. Read the ECU and save the original file.
  4. Edit the maps or load the file from your tuner.
  5. Write it back. MotoFlasher corrects the checksum.

Frequently asked questions

Can I flash a KTM 1290 Super Duke without removing the ECU?

Yes. Both the Keihin SH72531 and RH850 ECUs used in the 1290 Super Duke are read and written through the diagnostic connector.

Is the 1390 Super Duke supported?

Yes, on the Keihin RH850 (KTM CAN, 2024+) ECU.

Which interface do I need for a KTM?

A Tactrix OpenPort 2.0 or a CANable.

Do I need an add-on?

Only for the ECU families marked “Add-on” in the table above. Everything else is included in the license.

Can I go back to the stock map?

Yes. MotoFlasher reads the full original file before writing anything, and you can write it back at any time.
