Why flash a Yamaha ECU?
Yamaha ships its bikes lean at low throttle to pass noise and emission tests. On the CP2 twin (MT-07, Tracer 700, Ténéré 700) and the CP3 triple (MT-09, Tracer 900), that shows up as a snatchy throttle when you crack it open, a flat spot low in the rev range and hot running in traffic. Fit an aftermarket exhaust and the mixture moves further from where the engine is happiest.
A reflash fixes this at the source. Instead of a box between the injectors and the ECU, you change the maps the ECU itself uses: fuel, ignition and throttle, all in one file.
Which Yamaha ECU does your bike have?
Almost every Yamaha here uses a Denso ECU. Which one depends on the year:
- Denso SH7052F / SH7054F / SH7055F: earlier R1, R6, FZ1, FZ8 and XJR1300. Flashed on the bench through a USB-TTL adapter.
- Denso SH7058F: the long-running generation used across the MT, Tracer, R1, R6, FJR 1300 and Ténéré 700 ranges. Bench flashing, or over CAN on the models that support it.
- Denso SH7058F (Yamaha CAN): read and written through the diagnostic connector with a Tactrix OpenPort 2.0 or CANable, no need to remove the ECU.
- Denso RH850 (Yamaha CAN): the newest generation, used in recent MT-07, MT-09, MT-10, R1, R9, Tracer and Ténéré 700 models. Available as an add-on.
The table above lists the exact ECU per model year, so you know which method applies before you start.
What riders change on a Yamaha
- Richer fuelling at part throttle for a smooth, predictable pick-up.
- Fuel maps matched to an aftermarket exhaust or air filter.
- Ignition timing tuned for the fuel you run.
- Throttle response modes and torque limits in the lower gears.
- Rev limiter and radiator fan temperature.
Flashing a Yamaha, step by step
- Charge the battery or connect a charger.
- Connect your interface to the diagnostic port, or bench-wire the ECU for SH705x models.
- Read the ECU and save the original file somewhere safe.
- Edit the maps in your tuning editor, or open the file from your tuner.
- Write it back. MotoFlasher corrects the checksum, and the bike starts on the new map.

Frequently asked questions
Can I flash my Yamaha MT-07 through the OBD port?
Yes, on the MT-07 years with a CAN ECU (Denso SH7058F Yamaha CAN or RH850). Earlier years use a bench connection. The table above shows the method for every year.
Does a reflash fix the snatchy throttle on the MT-07 and MT-09?
That abrupt pick-up comes mostly from a lean low-throttle fuel map. Richening that area of the map is one of the most common changes on CP2 and CP3 engines.
Do I need the RH850 add-on?
Only for the newest Yamaha models with a Denso RH850 ECU. Those rows are marked “Add-on” in the table above. Every other Yamaha ECU is included in the license.
Which interface do I need for a Yamaha?
A Tactrix OpenPort 2.0 or CANable for CAN models, and a USB-TTL adapter for bench flashing the SH705x ECUs.
Can I return my Yamaha to the stock map?
Yes. MotoFlasher reads the full original file before writing anything, and you can write it back at any time.
